I'm Mary Mahoney Carlson, Digital Literacy and Professional Learning Specialist at the Rhode Island Regional Adult Learning center in Woonsocket, RI. My professional background includes roles in design, IT, and education.
I began in the visual arts, earning an MFA from Brooklyn College, part of the City University of New York and and then working in graphic design and content creation roles in NYC and Boston. I was a stay-at-home mom until my daughter entered elementary school. Volunteering there, combined with a love of teaching and learning led me to the education field and I worked for several years as a Math Interventionist, classroom teacher, and paraprofessional in public school districts in Boston's MetroWest suburbs. Those skills carried over naturally into adult education, my current focus. In addition to working at RIRAL, I've almost completed a M.Ed. in Instructional Design at UMass Boston. It's an amazing program, and I've learned a lot about creating digital learning experiences, video editing, project management, and training techniques.
My passion lies in creating and curating online learning resources, finding innovative ways to integrate technology into teaching, and sharing my love of mathematics, technology, and art with learners of all ages.
